Rebating refers to cutting a 90° rectangular block out of a piece of wood to create an "L" shape in the machined piece. This is one of the most essential wood machining processes, and the basis for many steps in solid-wood production. A true 90° corner in the rebate is key, and although a rebate cut can be performed with many types of tooling, insert knife cutters with spur knives achieve the perfect angle required.
