Knowledge
"It starts with knowledge..." is more than a motto to us- it's how we do business. Our first goal is to share some of what we have learned about our trade with you.
Box Joint & Dovetail
Box Joints
A box joint is a square joint which is applied to the edge of solid wood stock, normally used in the production of drawers and furniture. The square joint is repeated normally in equal heights and depths along the full length of material. This is not only a decorative joint, but a strong one, and can be achieved on shapers, handheld routers, and (if performed correctly) CNC routers. Thin adjustable grooving/tenoning tools and insert knife systems are ideal for this application, as repeated sizing is critical. Woodworkers producing high volumes of box joints will often have a special set of insert knife tools produced especially for their joint, for the ultimate flexibility.
Dovetail Joints
Dovetail joints, like box joints, are traditionally used on drawers and in furniture. A strong joint that also has decorative value, this joint is unique for its geometry which can only be achieved by a handheld or CNC router, or with specialized machinery. For centuries, furniture producers have been hand-cutting dovetails which become more than just a joint and part of the distinctive charm of the piece, with details that catch the eye.
